Editing Pitot Wing Data - CapeEx19
Reason for editing
- During ongoing aircraft field research in Florida in 2019, the aircraft's wing pitot sensor was found to be providing erroneous readings.
- During the creation of the physical file, the process_all script consolidates the CIP pitot pressure into the wing pitot pressure spot; consequently, the anomalous data is utilized to generate the .basic.raw file.
- The CIP pitot pressure is about 10 mb lower than the nose pitot pressure.
How to remove the corrupted data
- Connect to vpn.ndus.edu through Global Protect
- Open and log into the Littlestorm server through PuTTY.
- After logging in, type in the command: cd /nas/und/Florida/2019/Aircraft/CitationII_N555DS/FlightData
- After going to the FlightData directory, look inside it for a subdirectory named after the specific date of flight you want to see. For instance, I chose the 20190803_142455 flight data to make changes.
- After selecting the directory of interest, type: cd PostProcessing
- Navigate to the .physical.raw.gz file.
Editing the file and data inside it:
- First, if the file is compressed, meaning it is in .gz format, then decompress it using the command: gunzip 19_08_03_14_24_55.physical.raw
- Once the file is in decompressed form, type: aplot 19_08_03_14_24_55.physical.raw
- This command will open ADPAA Aplot.
- Select 'Pitot_Wing' and then XY Plot
- To look at the time interval of this flight, click the Tools tab located at the top of the bar.
- Under the Tools section, click “Statistics”. A side window will be opened, which displays the X-span (time interval).
- Notice the Minimum and Maximum time.
- Under the File tab, go to the “Add Edit” option.
- Type the minimum time as Start Time and the maximum time as End Time.
- Type in the editor name
- Select the parameter as Pitot_Wing
- Then type in the reason for making the edit. For instance, I type “Not connected, negative values”
- Click “Store Edit info”. This will create a .physical.edits file in the directory you are in.
- Then go to the File tab and click on “Apply edits”. This will create a .physical.cleans file in the directory.
- The .physical.cleans file will not contain the data from the Pitot_wing sensor.
