Problem
During the Oct. 18 2004 flight and for many of the MPACE flights, the CN concentration had jumps which you could really notice at low concentrations (~100 cc).
Cause
The cause is not the digization of the voltage signal. Maybe it is a bad channel on the A/D board.
Solution
- Update December 2, 2004: The December 1, 2004 flight and several other L3Com flights had spikes in the CN data. On the December 1, 2004 flight, this may be related to the low flow rate (~0.5 L/min)
- Update December 13, 2004 Update: The inlet and outlet CN counter flowrate was checked on December 13, 2004. The inlet and outlet were fairly close (45 on inlet, 52 on outlet).
- Update December 15, 2004 Update: The October 9, 2004 flight had jumps on the raw 25 Hz analog voltage values at low concentration. Seems to be a problem on the A/D board that gives these spikes in the data. Also, the analog data looks like it is only 8 bits (~ 0.04 volts) change on the scale. This gives a resolution of only 25 #/cm^3 since the voltage range is 0-10 volts which corresponds to a concentration range of 0-10,000 #/cm^3.
