Wind Validation: Reverse Track Flight (May 23, 2003 Comparison 1)
Using the wind calibration based on the July 11, 2003 flight, a comparison of three time segments is made for the May 23, 2003 reverse track flight when the aircraft flew over a similar location. Figures 1-5 illustrate the calculated parameters for the comparison time periods: Time segment 1 is from 65125 to 65180, time segment 2 is from 65410 to 65495, and time segment 3 is from 65645 to 65715.
- Figure 1: The aircraft's position (latitude versus longitude) during wind comparison period 1 on the May 23, 2003 flight. Symbols are given every second each segment.
- Figure 2: The X (East) component of the wind during comparison 1 on the May 23, 2003 flight. Symbols are given every second for time segments illustrated in Figure 1. The time gap between the two segments is when the aircraft was turning around so it could overfly the same location.
- Figure 3: The Y (north) component of the wind during comparison 1 on the May 23, 2003 flight. Symbols are given every second for the time segments illustrated in Figure 1. The time gap between the segments is when the aircraft was turning around so it could overfly the same location.
- Figure 4: The wind magnitude during comparison 1 on the May 23, 2003 flight. Symbols are given every second for the time segments illustrated in Figure 1. The time gap between the two segments is when the aircraft was turning around so it could overfly the same location.
- Figure 5: The wind direction during comparison 1 on the May 23, 2003 flight. Symbols are given every second for the time segments illustrated in Figure 1. The time gap between the two segments is when the aircraft was turning around so it could overfly the same location.
