Laptop Connection to TAMDAR

Physical Connection to TAMDAR

Laptop with either Hyperterminal or TAMDAR Data Manager program installed.
RS-232 serial data cable (and USB to RS-232 cable if laptop does not have serial port). No null modem.
TAMDAR switch set to 'PC' mode.

Software Connection to TAMDAR

Hyperterminal Connection

Open either the Hyperterminal and set the baud rate to 9600, all other properties to default.
Turn on TAMDAR.
TAMDAR will transmit 'AX' until either it has achieved satellite lock or timed out.
If the TAMDAR has achieved a satellite lock, it will continue to transmit various codes to the satellite. Otherwise it will do nothing.

TAMDAR Data Manager Connection

Open the TAMDAR Data Manager program and click the 'serial comm' tab.
Turn on TAMDAR.
TAMDAR will transmit 'AX' until either it has achieved satellite lock or timed out.
If the TAMDAR has achieved a satellite lock, it will continue to transmit various codes to the satellite. Otherwise it will do nothing.
If you want to force an observation from the TAMDAR, go to 'Calibration' tab, then click on the 'Read All from TAMDAR' button.
